The NTIS is the Northern Territory Government’s centre of sporting excellence for the identification, development and support of the Territory’s talented athletes and coaches. The primary purpose of the NTIS is to develop NT athletes into champions. This is achieved through:
The NTIS has two Key Performance Indicators:
1) NTIS athletes representing Australia.
2) NTIS athletes competing in national leagues or professional competitions.
In line with the NTIS’ primary purpose and Key Performance Indicators, the NTIS provides priority support to athletes, and their coaches, with demonstrated capacity to perform and achieve at the highest levels within their chosen sport.
The NTIS offers support to athletes and coaches through Individual Athlete Scholarships and Squad Scholarships.
NTIS athletes on an Individual Athlete Scholarship are afforded highest priority and, therefore, access to the highest level of support and full range of services. Athletes in Squad Programs can be on an Individual or Squad Scholarship. The level of support and services available to athletes on Squad Scholarships are more limited than available to Individual Scholarship Holders and determined by the NTIS on an annual basis.
The NT Government considers NTIS Individual Athlete and Squad Scholarships as an investment in Territory sport. Therefore, the NT Government, through the NTIS, assume primary program development and management authority for all supported programs. This includes an emphasis on an in-house multi-disciplined specialist team approach to servicing of athletes.
